Illustrated with images by one of the world’s leading wildlife photographers, The Science of Hope informs as it educates, describing the psychology and science behind our desire to connect with these animals.

Each year, photographers from around the world are invited to enter the Australian Geographic ANZANG Nature Photographer of the Year competition. (ANZANG refers to the Australia–New Zealand–Antarctica–New Guinea bioregion.)Last year, 2013, David Rennie won it. His achievement was made all the more remarkable by the fact that David Rennie’s love affair with photography only began in 2007 at the age of 47.

In this magnificent book, David has included just a taste of the strikingly memorable images that now comprise his vast collection. Most are taken at the Mandurah Wetlands, south of Perth. Encompassing over 26,000 hectares, these wetlands are home to over 140 species of bird, with many migrating every year from as far away as Russia. Wild Beast – The Art of Dean Buchanan

Dean Buchanan has always been an irresistible force in New Zealand art. From an early age he showed immense talent, painting large oils that demonstrated both technical brilliance and a close affinity with the natural world. During the past thirty years he has become probably New Zealand’s most prolific (and also most affordable) painter, as well as one of the most instantly recognisable. His paintings are found in homes throughout New Zealand and in public buildings and galleries both here and overseas. He has also exhibited in Australia, Japan, Chile, Switzerland and the USA.

Coupled with his creative talent is an ability to live life to the full. No shrinking violet, ‘Wild beast’ Buchanan has always expressed himself forthrightly, especially in defence of preserving New Zealand’s natural environment. He has also become a mountaineer of some note, and in January 2007 succeeded in climbing Mt Cook. Bob Harvey interviewed Dean Buchanan extensively for this book, and describes every facet of his life. The book also includes 60 superb reproductions of some of his greatest paintings.
